Hodgkinson achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in the British capital.

The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday evening.

{The current Olympic gold medallist, who earned bronze at the global championships last month, dominated an outstanding victory in 1:56.53 in what was only her sixth race in a season impacted by a muscle issue.

Compatriot and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second again in one minute 58.33 seconds, while the athlete from St Vincent Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to compete and be motivated to perform," said the 23-year-old.

"The environment out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive meet packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was on hand to present the victors with their tiaras.

Last year's winners took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in four hours 17.78 minutes.

The US Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze winner from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
